| Interesting Facts "In
the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room As the song says, this attraction features an entire cast of audio-animatronic birds, flowers, and tikis who will sing, crack jokes and otherwise entertain the audience during the 15-minute show. A Disneyland classic.
After the door closes, the show starts when a Cast Member wakes up Jose, the macaw who serves as Master of Ceremonies. The room comes to life in a burst of color and song as his fellow macaws Michael, Pierre, and Fritz lead the rest of the birds in a chorus of "In the tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki room." In the center of the room the enchanted fountain rises and falls and changes colors as the bird mobile is lowered and the audience is invited to sing along as we all "sing like the birdies sing." The flower baskets are the featured performers in the musical luau. The orchids sing in a Polynesian language, then the tiki drummers in the back and the tiki totems on the side join in. Suddenly there are flashes of lightning and the sound of thunder, and outside the windows it appears to be raining heavily. The enchanted fountain and bird mobile make a last appearance, and the birds and tikis sing the Tiki Room version of "Heigh ho, heigh ho, it's out the door you go," as the macaws perform a final magic trick and make the audience disappear. Shows are usually presented twice an hour. The theater is air-conditioned, and it's a great place to cool off on a hot day. The theater is very rarely full. They are somewhat hidden, but there are restrooms at this attraction -- as you go up the steps towards the door to the theater the restrooms are on either side. There is a much larger restroom facility just outside and right next to the Adventureland Bazaar. Be warned that the "In the Tiki Room" song may get stuck in your head for hours. ECV or wheelchair users may remain in their chairs during this attraction. Assistive Listening Devices from Guest Services can be used here.
Disney characters are sometimes found on the Adventureland bridge right outside the Enchanted Tiki Room. Jasmine and Aladdin can be seen at Aladdin's Oasis, right next to the Tiki Room. The Tiki Bar, which serves Dole pineapple whip, juice, and spears, is located at the entrance to the Tiki Garden. There are two service counters --one inside the Tiki Garden and one outside -- the line inside is often shorter. Disneyland Restaurants at a Glance The Adventureland Bazaar is located just outside the exit, featuring a variety of adventure-themed souvenirs. The Enchanted Tiki Room opened on June 23, 1963. It was the first attraction to use audio-animatronics. The show was originally planned to be a dinner show, which is why it is the only attraction that has restrooms. The Tiki Room underwent an extensive rehab in late 2004 and reopened on March 12, 2005. United Air Lines was the sponsor from 1964-1976, and Dole Pineapple has been the sponsor since 1976. Walt Disney had a mechanical bird in a cage in his Burbank office, which inspired him to create the audio-animatronic birds in the Tiki Room. There are 225 audio-animatronic performers, including birds, flowers, tiki drummers and tiki gods.
