Captain EO – Epcot Archives

Captain EO ended its second run at the Magic Eye Theater on December 6, 2015. The Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival now runs in this location.

INTRODUCTION

Returning from a 16-year hiatus, Captain EO now plays in Epcot’s Imagination Pavilion. On June 30, 2010 cast members and members of the media were treated to preview of Captain EO. On July 2, 2010, the attraction officially reopened to guests.

Captain EO is vintage Michael Jackson in his prime. The songs are all original Jackson, and bring to life the story of an electronic band of space creatures who undergo a magical transformation and aid Jackson in conquering the evil forces of darkness.

ATTRACTION

Captain EO preshow area

The preshow area is physically the same as Honey I Shrunk the Audience, with a slanted floor. The monitors begin to share wait times at about 8 minutes and they are periodically updated. For those who are deaf or hearing impaired there are screens with captions on each row, ask the cast member specifically where they are located.

The original pre-show is shown.

After viewing the pre-show, enter the theater, take a seat, put on your 3D glasses and enjoy an enhanced sound system and new special effects thanks to the technology enhancements made when Honey I Shrunk the Audience debuted.

“The colorful new Disney-created musical instrument characters include: Hooter, the little green elephant who sneezes wild musical notes through his flute-like trunk; Fuzzball, the orange-haired space monkey with butterfly wings; Geex, a gold-encased, two-faced personality with two left feet, one right foot and two shaggy heads named Idy and Ody; Major Domo, whose mirrored silver costume becomes a complete set of drums, traps and string bass played by Fuzzball; and Minor Domo, with his sparkling purple torso that turns into an electronic synthesizer played by Hooter.” (From the original Press Release in the ’80s).

TOURING TIPS

If the wait time til the next show is too long (more than 15 minutes) get a FastPass+!

The film includes battle noises and a very loud musical soundtrack.

3-D “safety goggles” are worn in the theater to provide the special effects. There is a video monitor on the left side of the theater which allows you to follow the show without the 3D glasses.

Sitting your child on your lap will help reduce the special effects they experience.

Wheelchair entrance is on the left as you enter. Some special effects will not be experienced unless you are in one of the theater seats.
