Review of Topolino's Terrace -- Flavors of the Riviera Character Breakfast

We had never been to a character meal and to be honest were somewhat apprehensive of what would be expected of us. We didn’t need to be as the characters were really easy to interact with. The food was great and started with various pastries. My wife leans towards veganism and had the plant based wild mushroom omelette. I had the Steak and Eggs. Both were excellent. This was a great experience, which has made us determined to try further character meals.

Pros:

Characters, atmosphere, food, POG juice, location.

Cons:

Maybe price.

Review of Mr. Kamal's

Mr. Kamals is another snack stand in Animal Kingdom that is a must-do for our family. Specifically, Mr. Kamal’s Seasoned Fries are truly a stand out as they are crispy fries with a delusions dipping sauce. We always get these fries as something to snack on while walking after seeing Feathered Friends in Flight. I know that this snack has received criticism because you aren’t given a bunch of dipping sauces at once, but as a family who likes to eat and walk with them, we prefer only having one dipping sauce. That being said, it would be nice to have more than one dipping sauce available so you can choose the one you want most. Either way, this is a great snack and a must-do when you are in animal kingdom.

Pros:

- Mr. Kamal’s Seasoned Fries

Cons:

- It would have been nice to have had a wider selection of sauce offerings where you only choose one

Review of Eight Spoon Cafe

Eight Spoon Café was a must-stop for our family during our visit to Animal Kingdom. Though this snack stand looks inconspicuous, it has some real treats that differentiate it from all the other snack stands in the park. Specifically, we loved the Baked Macaroni & Cheese with Pulled Pork. They give you a good portion that can be both devoured by one or shared with your family members. This snack is a great addition to the staple items on the menu, such as a Mickey Pretzel with Cheese or Churros, and we will continue to visit Eight Spoon Cafe during our future visits to Animal Kingdom.

Pros:

- Baked Macaroni & Cheese with Pulled Pork - classic Disney park snacks - Great location right before you enter Asia

Cons:

- Do not expect a "gourmet" mac and cheese flavor or the best Memphis-style pulled pork. The mac and cheese still tastes a bit like Kraft cheese, and the pulled pork can be a little runny, but considering it is at a snack stand inside the park, this item is still worth it for us!

Review of Sebastian's Bistro

May 6, 2024. Family style is our favorite dining, so Sebastian's Bistro was an easy choice. What made this special over other similar family style dining was the Caribbean flavor, sauces and preparation that came with the regular chicken, pork and beef options. Plus there was fish included in this meal.
As with other family style dining, there was plenty of food, and when ordering more of an item, the food came quickly. The service was very good. Easily the best of this trip, and now one of my favorite restaurants in WDW.

Pros:

Caribbean take on family BBQ

Cons:

none

Review of Ale and Compass Restaurant Lunch/Dinner

May 10, 2024. As regular visitors to WDW, Ale and Compass was our foray into new territory. It was a 2/3 hit. We were among the first diners of the day (dinner) and were seated immediately. Service was good. There was a nice assortment of menu options which is welcome in this era of shrinking menus. We ordered the Short Ribs which were wonderful. the Seafood Pot Pie had large pieces of shrimp, Mahi, Scallops and more in a large flaky crust. The New York Strip however was not good. First warning sign missed is that the menu does not state the size of the steak. My fault for not asking? The expectation when dining in a nice full service restaurant is that a $38 NY steak will be 12 oz or so? This one was tiny. Maybe a half-inch thick, and 8-10 oz at best. And every other bite was mostly inedible grizzle leaving much of this boneless steak on the plate. Because the other 2 entrees were being enjoyed, I didn't complain....but I really should have. I could see dining at Ale and Compass again, but would certainly avoid the steak, which is the most expensive item on the menu.

Pros:

Seafood Pot Pie, Short Ribs

Cons:

Steak

May 5, 2024. Our group loves family style food
and BBQ so this was an easy choice even with no kids in our group. Plus it was new to us. Theming was good, though there are some seating areas where you're not in the midst of things. We all thought the food was good, though perhaps nothing special or new. The sweet pepper jam with the rolls was my favorite part of the meal. Service was good. We were seated a little before our reservation time and the food came quickly. The cost is about $5-10 more than family dining elsewhere at WDW.

Pros:

Plenty of food

Cons:

loud

Quite possibly the best meal ive had in recent memory. We went there in December of 2023 and haven't stopped talking about it. The okonomiyaki was sooooooo good and to us was a must order. Can't wait to go back on our upcoming trip in February 2025!

Pros:

Quality, Service, Overall experience

Cons:

Was a bit pricy but would happily pay it again for how great the meal was!

Review of Kona Cafe Lunch/Dinner

We stayed at the Polynesian for years while our kids were growing up and somehow never managed to give this place a try. We finally decided to eat there for dinner (because we needed a break from MK) and couldn’t believe what we had been missing out on for years. Our kids are grown, so we were there alone, and were very impressed but the quality and flavor of the food. Our server was wonderful and when I asked for a recommendation between three dishes, he suggested I get the chicken. He said it was delicious and it really was. I’m not usually impressed by chicken at a restaurant but this was flavorful and tender. The bok choy that came with it was heavily seasoned with black pepper but still very good. The sticky rice was a nice balance to the black pepper on the veggie. The star of the dinner, in my opinion, were the port and vegetable pot stickers— amazing! They are served in a manner I’ve only seen at more traditional Chinese restaurants— they look like they are pan fried in a round skillet and come out attached to one another with like a lattice work of dough or something across the top and the sauce they are served on kicks the flavor up a notch. Amazing. My husband got the coffee braised short ribs and said they were delicious, as well. We will definitely be going back for dinner.

Pros:

Delicious and somewhat healthy food options

Cons:

Nothing

If you like beef, I 100% recommend trying the Sukiyaki rice dish. The flavors and presentation are different from anything I’ve ever had before in a Japanese restaurant. I’m not a sushi eater so I didn’t try any sushi, but we also got the chicken karaage appetizer (which was good but nothing different from what I’ve had before) and the kushi skewer assortment (which was also good but again, nothing unique, but a good option for pickier eaters). Service was fantastic. The tables can be a bit close to each other, but that’s no different than other Disney restaurants we’ve eaten in. Overall, a fantastic experience that we would do again. We ate there for lunch, but dinner would be wonderful too.

Pros:

Some unique food you won’t find at your local Japanese/Sushi restaurant

Cons:

Can get a little pricey

Review of My Disney Experience

Disney world used to be a 10/10 vacation spot. You would not be let down and they would exceed your expectations. Not anymore. This last trip will probably be my last time going. It is sad to see the place go down hill so quickly. Transportation/rides and restrooms are in a disgusting state, very dirty and unsanitary. Not sure if it's just disgusting guests or inability to meet cleaning needs or both. The majority of the rides broke down during the visit causing wait times to soar. It is definitely not the place it once was, and DEFINITELY NOT worth the money anymore. I'm just glad I got to experience it back before it started to go downhill. The quality it once had is gone, it is now all about getting as much money from you as they can. It is sad seeing it being run into the ground.

Pros:

Not really any pros anymore

Cons:

Costly and disappointing now days.
