Goofy has had a bunch of jobs over the years, from basketball player to photographer– even a job as a superhero! But now, it seems like he’s finally found his true calling!
Say hello to Engineer Goofy, one of the stars of the upcoming Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, which is set to open March 4th in Hollywood Studios. Walt Disney World President Josh D’Amaro recently shared a behind-the-scenes preview of the attraction to his Instagram, giving us a sneak preview of the loading dock for the attraction.
Runaway Railway’s queue is split into two parts, first taking guests into the theater for “The Perfect Picnic” short, which we got a preview of back in December. Guests then take a step inside the cartoon itself, leading them into the wacky world of Mickey Mouse! These new photos are our first look at this cartoon world, from what looks like the loading dock for the ride.
Unlike the traditional rounded aesthetic of Toontown or the realistic aesthetic of Hollywood Studios, the Cartoon World strongly resembles the Mickey Mouse shorts airing on the Disney Channel and Disney+, with simple painted textures and bold edges. Certain elements, like Goofy’s portrait, are entirely 2D, giving the illusion that you’re entering a cartoon.
This is our first look at the “2.5 D”-style advertised for the attraction, as well as our first look at the loading area! (But, Mr. D’Amaro, we’re not trying to tattle, but you should be behind the yellow line!)
