Eight Facts You Probably Didn’t Know About Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway opened in Disney’s Hollywood Studios on March 4, and so far, it’s been met with long lines and excited guests.

This long-awaited attraction took the place of the Great Movie Ride in the Chinese Theatre and is the first Mickey and Minnie-themed attraction in the Disney Parks.

Here are eight facts you probably didn’t know about this brand new attraction.

Easter Eggs

For starters, there is a slew of hidden Easter eggs throughout the attraction. So, you will really want to keep your eyes peeled to see what’s hidden within the ride.

Hidden Mickeys

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway has more Hidden Mickeys than ANY other Disney attraction!

Two Stories

On top of all of these exciting hidden details, Runaway Railway also has a B-story. The term B-story is often used in films and means it has a secondary plot. This is another super exciting aspect as this sort of storyline has never happened on a Disney ride before.

Homage to Steamboat Willie

And did you know that Disney is also paying homage to Steamboat Willie in this new attraction? Well, they are! They are doing this by using the original tri-tone whistle for the train. Pretty cool, right?!

No Special Glasses Required

Runaway Railway is a 2 1/2-D experience — no glasses are required! According to Walt Disney Imagineer Kevin Rafferty, the teams has invented “new technologies that turn the flat world of a colorful cartoon short into a “dimensional display of amazingness.” We’d say they nailed it!

FastPass+ Availability

FastPass+ is available for this new attraction, and they’re already available on the My Disney Experience app. So if you time it right you can snag a FastPass so you won’t have to wait in the hefty new attraction lines.

Runaway Railway FastPass Tiers Impact

With the addition of FastPass to Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, we have seen a change in FastPass Tiers. Slinky Dog Dash, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway are  ALL tier one attractions.

Play Disney Parks and Runaway Railway

If you aren’t able to snag a FastPass and find yourself waiting in line, you may be happy to know that the ride has been added to the Play Disney Parks app. Mickey and Minnie’s Trivia Time: Mouse Rules Apply is a trivia challenge that lets guests test their knowledge of classic Disney characters. It features five trivia packs, some of which you can play at home.

Runaway Railway Isn’t One-of-a-Kind

And last but not least, we thought we’d remind everyone that this attraction is also coming to Disneyland! It’s currently set to open in 2022.
