The Trains of All the Disney Parks Around the World

Let’s take a tour of the Railroads from Disney Parks around the world!

Main Street Train Station

Walt Disney was known for his love of trains, and five of the six Resorts worldwide are now home to a classic railroad attraction. All aboard for a trip to the classic Disney trains around the world!

Disneyland Railroad at Disneyland Resort

The original Disney railroad is located at Disneyland Park. It was an opening day attraction on July 17th, 1955, and it has been a staple of the Park ever since. The Disneyland Railroad offers guests an 18-minute journey around the park aboard an authentic steam-powered train. The attraction features five meticulously restored, working narrow-gauge engines, four of which are named after American locomotive legends — C.K. Holliday, E.P. Ripley, Ernest Marsh, and Fred Gurley. The fifth is named after Ward Kimball, the Disney Animator who originally inspired Walt Disney’s passion for the railway. If you’re looking for a classic Disney Parks attraction, the Disneyland Railroad is a must-do!

Walt Disney World Railroad at Walt Disney World Resort

The Walt Disney World Railroad was an opening day attraction at its Park as well, debuting at Magic Kingdom on October 1st, 1971. The Walt Disney World Railroad is currently unavailable due to construction on the new TRON Lightcycle Run attraction. But when it is operational, it offers guests a scenic, 20-minute round-trip journey around the park. The Walt Disney World Railroad boasts four meticulously restored, vintage narrow-gauge steam trains—originally built between 1916 and 1928. And the names of several of these locomotives probably ring a bell. Three are named after members of the Disney family — Walter E. Disney, Roy O. Disney, and Lilly Belle (Walt’s wife). The fourth is named after Roger E. Broggie an Imagineer that was also a train fanatic. The Walt Disney World Railroad is yet another classic attraction that deserves a spot on any Disney fan’s bucket list!

Western River Railroad at Tokyo Disney Resort

Next, we’re hopping over to the Western River Railroad located in Tokyo Disneyland. This steam train takes guests on a round-trip through Adventureland, Critter Country, and Westernland. The attraction features four locomotives named after famous rivers located in the western United States — Colorado, Missouri, Rio Grande, and Mississippi. And as with the previously mentioned railroads, Western River Railroad was also an opening day attraction, debuting with the opening of Tokyo Disneyland on April 15th, 1983.

Disneyland Railroad at Disneyland Paris Resort

Located at Disneyland Park in Paris, the Disneyland Railroad takes guests on a 20-minute Grand Circle Tour onboard an authentic steam-powered train. There are four locomotives that call Disneyland Paris home, and each is named after an American legend. There’s the C.K. Holliday, which you may remember is also the name of one of the locomotives from Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. There’s also the W.F. Cody, which was Buffalo Bill’s real name, the G. Washington, named after the first president of the United States, and the Eureka, which is the word Californian miners yelled when they discovered gold during the gold rush. And, you guessed it, this was yet another opening day attraction, first welcoming guests when Disneyland Paris opened its gates on April 12th, 1992.

Hong Kong Disneyland Railroad at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort

The newest Disney railroad to enter the scene, the Hong Kong Disneyland Railroad was an opening day attraction, making its debut on September 12th, 2005. The attraction offers guests a 20-minute scenic tour of the park aboard a steam-powered train. It sports three locomotives that are modeled on the original steam engines built for Disneyland Park in Anaheim. Two of the three locomotive names will surely ring a bell — the Walter E. Disney and the Roy O. Disney. The third is named the Frank G. Wells, after the president and chief operating officer of The Walt Disney Company from 1984-1994.
