FULL Tour of a Moana-Inspired Room at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Is a stay at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort right for YOU? This post could help you find out!

Disney’s Polynesian Resort

A stay at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort can be delicious, beautiful, convenient (walking access to Magic Kingdom most of the time), and…expensive. But if you’ve never stayed here or haven’t stayed here recently, you might be wondering just what the rooms look like. Are they spacious? Do they have enough storage for your things? Take a breath — we’ve got you covered!

Back in 2021, Disney overhauled the rooms at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to feature a Moana theme! We shared an overview of these rooms when they opened, but now we’re taking a DEEP DIVE and giving you a full room tour thanks to a recent stay at the resort!

So…let’s begin! Things started in the hallway near our room, where you can spot colorful carpeting on the floor, a brown color scheme on the walls/doors, and some themed lighting fixtures throughout.

Hallway

Stepping inside the room, you are greeted by a restroom, a closet/storage area, and a view of the beds. Mind you this was a standard room at the hotel with the Moana theming, but of course, exact room shapes can vary depending on where your room is placed within the hotel building. Plus, things will look different if you book a Disney Vacation Club villa at the resort.

The View

If you don’t want to be disturbed, be sure to place the room occupied sign outside your door. You’ll find it in your room.

Do Not Disturb!

Also, taking a look at the door to the room from the inside, you can see the evacuation route on the back of the door. You never hope for anything to happen during your trip that would require you to evacuate, but should the occasion arise, remember the plan is on the back of the door.

Back of the Door

Okay, back to the fun! Let’s tackle the storage/closet space first. This is a pretty substantial spot with some good storage for your items.

Storage Space

In one area, you’ll find hangers and a handheld steamer.

Hangers

That can be great for fancier evening looks for those nice Table Service meals you’ve got planned!

Hang Your Clothes

In another part of the closet, there’s more to see!

More Here

There, you’ll find an extra pillow/blanket set…

Pillow/Blanket

…a stool which you can remove to use as a holding spot for your luggage or other items…

Stool

…and drawers that you can use to store your belongings.

Drawers

But wait, there’s MORE. Another portion of the closet has more shelving…

Shelving

…and a safe that you can use to store valuable belongings. The safe has instructions on how to set a key code, so be sure to follow those carefully and write down your pin so you don’t forget it!

Safe

There’s also a nice long mirror on one of the closet doors so you can make sure that your Disney outfit is perfect!

Mirror

Next, let’s move to the ever-necessary coffee station (there can be some LONG nights and early mornings in Disney!).

Coffee Station

Here, you’ll find some ADORABLE artwork featuring the one and only Heihei!

Heihei!

Plus, there’s an ice box (you can fill it up at the ice stations within the hotel)…

Grab Your Ice

…a Keurig machine…

…and a drawer filled with the essentials — coffee cups, K-Cups, sugar packets, and a few creamers too.

Drawer

Tucked away in this area is also the mini-fridge. It’s hidden!

See It?

But open up the beautifully designed door and you’ve got access to a small cooling space for water bottles and snacks.

Mini-Fridge

It’s not tremendously large (and remember that this isn’t exactly as powerful as your fridge at home), but if you need something to keep your water cool, this should do the trick!

A Look Inside

Just past the coffee station, there’s a door that connects to the adjoining room. If you’ll be staying with family members and renting multiple rooms, you can ask that they be next to each other so you can connect through doors like these!

Door

Within the room, you’ll also find a recycling and trash can so you can throw away all of the wrappers for those Mickey Rice Krispie treats you’ve devoured.

Trash and Recycling

There is also a large flat-screen TV in the room, which will generally display a welcome message with your party’s name on it!

TV

The TV is situated above a set of drawers.

TV

These offer more storage for all of your things.

More Storage Space

In terms of theming, the Moana touches are certainly there, but you have to look for them. For example, on the wall, there is a wallpaper pattern that might not look special at first glance. But look again and you’ll see Maui and Moana within the patterns!

See Them?

Just past the TV and dresser, there is a small table with a lamp and some more storage underneath.

Side Table

Now, let’s turn to the beds! Our standard room had 2 beds.

Beds

Each has a brown headboard behind it, simple white linens…

…a colorful floral pillow…

Pillows

…and a little sitting bench at the end.

Here’s another view of the room from one side…

…and one from a different angle to give you a bit of perspective.

Another Look

In the room, you’ll also find a sofa couch/sleeper sofa. It is in a beautiful blue color and features themed pillows.

Couch

There’s one with an octopus…

Pillow

…and another with a turtle!

Pillow

When in the couch position, you can lounge around here. But you can also rearrange this to be more friendly for sleeping. There are instructions provided on the couch for what to do.

Here’s a look at the bed once you’ve pulled the necessary things.

And here’s a look at the light fixture you’ll find near the couch — simple but nice!

Light

There is a window in the room and it’s pretty large. To block out the light and other people’s view into your room, there are two curtains. One is a thinner curtain more for blocking out the view inside your room…

Curtain

…and the other is thicker to help block out outdoor lights. It has a blue and brown pattern on it that definitely gives beachy vibes.

More Full Curtains

Need a little side table to place some belongings or use when you have your coffee? That’s available too — there are 2 tables with one being ever so slightly higher than the other.

Tables

There’s also a chair in one corner of the room with an ottoman to rest your feet! It again carries through the blue and brown colors seen throughout the room.

Chair

And there is a gorgeous light fixture above the chair that you can’t miss. Look closely and you’ll see how it has incorporated Moana and Hei Hei into its design.

So Pretty!

There’s another light fixture near the side of the bed closest to the window…

By the Bed

…a reading light…

…and outlets (so you can charge your essentials) above a little floating shelf to place your phone. It isn’t very large though so just keep that in mind!

Shelf

The beds themselves are elevated with space underneath. You can place your luggage there so you don’t crowd up other parts of the room.

Under the Bed

Between the two beds is a little storage cabinet/nightstand.

Little Cabinet

Ours had a phone…

…map/guide…

…bible within the first drawer…

…and more storage space underneath.

Storage

In our room, we also found that a Hey, Disney! Alexa device had been installed! This allows you to ask Hey, Disney! questions about park hours and bus times. There are also fun activities the system can play with you, and you can use it to ask for more things in the room (like towels).

Hey Disney

In terms of more Moana theming, there was also a painting in the room.

Painting

Look closely and you’ll see Moana and Pua sitting on the beach looking out to the sea.

How Sweet

Just note that the space on this side of the room (between the wall, painting, and bed) is somewhat narrow. There is also a light fixture on this side and the plugs with a spot to place your device as you charge it.

A Little Narrow

Need your room to be extra cold when you sleep or hate walking in and feeling a chill? Adjust things on your thermostat!

Here’s another look at the room.

Another Look

Alright, now let’s tackle the bathroom! Here’s an overview — it’s got double sinks, a toilet behind a separate door, and a shower.

Bathroom

At the sink area, there is a large mirror for all those bathroom selfies.

Mirror

Speaking of which, Quincy just couldn’t resist snapping a few when showing us around the room — Hey Quincy!!

Hey!

The sinks stick out from the countertop but are pretty large, so you’ll have plenty of space to brush those teeth.

Sinks

In our room, we still found that the H2O+ soap was available. Remember that H2O+ has announced its retirement as a brand (it retired in 2022), but the brand had indicated that it would fulfill its obligation to supply products to its business partners and proceed with dissolution in the second half of 2023. So we could see this changing soon…potentially.

Soap

In the bathroom, you’ll also find a box of tissues…

…extra towels…

Towels

…a mirror…

…more H2O+ products…

…a blowdryer…

…and some storage space.

Then there’s the toilet.

Toilet

It’s located at the back end of the bathroom and can be separated from the rest of the space by a pocket door.

Toilet

There is a towel bar above the toilet…

Place Your Towel

…some artwork to the side…

…and a small storage space with extra towels.

More Towels

Back in the main bathroom space, there is a good-sized shower (NO tub!).

Shower

You’ll find a towel on the sliding glass door…

…two shower heads…

…H2O+ products in bottles that are screwed to the wall and cannot be removed…

…a small space where you can put your own products and bathroom items…

…and a little shelf where you can perhaps put an item or two or rest your leg when shaving.

Tiny Shelf

There’s also a trash can in the bathroom.

Trash Can

And that’s it! That is our FULL room tour of a Moana-themed room at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Overall, it has some beautiful Moana theming but is not as bold as, say, Art of Animation, in terms of theming.

What do you think about the room — is it for you or would you prefer something different? Tell us in the comments.

What Do You Think?

Once you’re done exploring your room, don’t forget to stop by the Polynesian’s many wonderful restaurants. You could even grab a chocolate-covered strawberry from Kona Island!

YUM!

That’s it for this room tour, but we’ve got a LOT more where that came from. Go inside the rooms at EVERY Disney World hotel by checking out our post here.

  1. I like the designs very much, based on your photos. The theming is spot-on…fun but not too “in-your-face”. In comparison, I saw the Yacht Club rooms (concierge level)
AST week, and they were boring. You would not even know you were at Disney!

  2. The new rooms are so much worse than the old rooms. So cold. We stayed at the DVC last stay and they are still the old-style–much better! I genuinely wish Disney would stop the cheap-looking character rooms and their new trend of un-themeing their hotels and move back to what the fans love and come to see—The Poly before was a pseudo-tropical hotel that was just wonderful. I have stayed many times. Recent years, we don’t spend the money. The other commenter said that it looks like a Hilton–I would have to agree that the new rooms do. So, save a lot of money and stay elsewhere kids! Maybe if we all stayed other places–Disney would get on the stick and stop removing everything we true fans love!! (For the price, I can just take the family to Hawaii))

  3. This room was awesome. We stayed here March 2022. Storage, storage, storage. That’s exactly what you need on a Disney trip. Everything had a place. Beautiful room. We were near Trader Sam’s and the marina. Polynesian is my favorite resort. We have stayed twice.
