4 Reasons Why We SKIP One of the Most Popular Disney World Coasters

Space Mountain is one of the most popular rides in Disney World, especially when it comes to Magic Kingdom.

Space Mountain

It’s one of the three “mountains” of the park, and we often see it hit wait times of around an hour during busy seasons. While we normally 100% recommend checking out this ride, there are some situations where we deeply regret riding it, and we want you to avoid the same fate.

Neck Pain/Whiplash

We love Space Mountain deeply, but WOW does it jerk us around to no end! The ride is approaching 50 years old, and we really can feel it sometimes.

If you’re someone who struggles a lot with back or neck pain, this ride may give you issues. We strongly recommend having some Advil or Aleve with you in the parks so you can take some before or after you ride.

Getting In And Out of The Vehicle

Space Mountain in Disney World has three single seats in a vertical row in one cart, and then another cart the same way behind it.

While this is a pretty cool design for the ride, it’s definitely not the easiest to get in and out of, ESPECIALLY if you have mobility issues. Be sure to allow yourself enough time to get out of the vehicle, and don’t rush yourself! It’s more important to get in and out safely than to hurt yourself.

When The Line is Sticking OUT of The Line

Sometimes the Space Mountain line just gets TOO long, and that’s when you maybe want to walk away and come back later.

Space Mountain Line

We personally say that we won’t wait in a line for Space Mountain above 40ish minutes, but that’s because we’re in the parks constantly. If you’re visiting the parks for the first time and it’s a big must-do for you, we’d say it’s definitely worth waiting in an hour-long line!

After You’ve JUST Eaten

This goes for many rides in Disney World, but with all of Space Mountain’s ups and downs, eating minutes before you go on the ride is not what we’d recommend.

Space Mountain

This is especially true if you struggle with motion sickness (be sure to pack some medicine with you!), so we don’t recommend riding Space Mountain if you’ve eaten within a half hour.

Space Mountain

Space Mountain is a great ride for coaster fans, but if you’re afraid of the dark or don’t like fast rides that jerk you back and forth, you may want to sit this one out. Don’t forget that families can use rider swap if they have one child who wants to ride and one who doesn’t! As always, stay tuned to AllEars for the latest Disney news!

  1. During NSSHP…it was only after we pulled out of the loading station that I remembered that the ride is completely and I mean COMPLETELY dark.
